Ghami and Ayodele's lives were cut short when the vehicle they were traveling in, which also included Anthony Joshua and another passenger, collided with a stationary truck on a major road near Lagos. While Joshua sustained minor injuries, the loss of his friends is undoubtedly a heavy burden.
Following the accident, Joshua returned to the United Kingdom and attended the funeral, a testament to the strong bond he shared with Ghami and Ayodele. He expressed his grief and gratitude on Instagram, acknowledging the profound impact his friends had on his life.
"Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers," Joshua shared. "I didn't even realise how special they are. I'll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men. 100% it's tough for me, but I know it's even tougher for their parents. I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers."
Ghami played a crucial role in Joshua's career, serving as his full-time sport and exercise rehabilitation coach for over a decade. Ayodele, a personal trainer, was also a close companion. Just hours before the accident, Joshua shared a video of himself playing table tennis with Ayodele, highlighting the close friendship they shared.
But here's where it gets controversial... The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He was granted bail, and the case has been adjourned.
Joshua, who has family roots in Sagamu, the town near the crash site, was on his way to visit relatives for New Year celebrations at the time of the collision. This trip followed his recent victory over Jake Paul on December 19th.
And this is the part most people miss... UFC fighter Kamaru Usman has since apologized for a video call with Joshua that was circulated online, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
