Ducati's Exciting Sneak Peek at Two Upcoming Motorcycles
Get ready for some thrilling news in the motorcycle world! Ducati has just revealed intriguing details about two of its upcoming models for 2026 – the DesertX V2 and the Desmo450 EDS. Although these bikes were initially showcased in prototype form at the end of last year, we now have access to leaked design registrations that unveil their final looks.
What’s striking here is that these designs don’t come as a shock to enthusiasts. The Desmo450 EDS closely resembles what we saw in the pre-release images, and it retains many of the main chassis and body components from its sibling, the competition-oriented Desmo450 EDX, which has already been introduced in Ducati’s 2026 lineup. The street-legal EDS distinguishes itself primarily by adding a headlight, as previously hinted at in Ducati's previews. However, these recent leaks reveal even more road-ready features that weren’t present in the show model. For instance, we see the inclusion of mirrors, a rear license plate bracket, and functioning front and rear turn signals.
Additionally, the leaked images inform us that the EDS will sport a different exhaust system compared to its off-road counterparts, the MX and EDX models. This new exhaust design includes a longer header pipe that curves downward significantly more than those on the off-road versions, accompanied by a catalytic converter positioned near the cylinder head instead of a simple expansion chamber found in the dirt-focused bikes. There's also an O2 sensor integrated into the new header pipe, contributing to emissions control.
A few other minor enhancements are also noteworthy, such as a heel guard positioned behind the right footpeg to protect the rear brake cylinder, plus guards covering the front sprocket and chain on the left side. Nestled behind the front cowl, there’s a compact instrument cluster along with an ignition key switch, rounding out the bike's features.
Moving on to the DesertX V2, which was another model teased at EICMA last year, this bike was presented with eye-catching dazzle camouflage and lacked certain final touches. Now, thanks to the new design registrations, we can get a clearer picture of its completed form, including those previously missing elements.
The overall aesthetic bears a strong resemblance to the existing DesertX, boasting a nostalgic, Dakar-inspired silhouette. However, it is built around a revamped monocoque-style alloy chassis that aligns with Ducati's latest V2 models. Powering this motorcycle is the same 890cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine that we also see in the newest Panigale, Streetfighter, Multistrada, Monster, and Hypermotard V2 bikes. This strategic move not only enhances production efficiency but also increases parts sharing across Ducati’s lineup.
The new engine design is more compact and lightweight compared to the older 937cc Testastretta version. It replaces Ducati’s hallmark Desmodromic valve system with standard valve springs, while introducing variable intake valve timing, which broadens the performance range significantly.
When comparing the latest design registrations of the DesertX V2 with its earlier preview, we notice the addition of components like mirrors that were absent from the prototype shown previously, along with a street-legal exhaust replacing the Termignoni pipe seen during the initial display.
Moreover, a detailed examination reveals that the bike will feature a two-part seat, contrasting with the single-piece design showcased earlier, as well as a license plate bracket. Overall, the updates confirm that the prototype flaunted at EICMA closely resembles the specifications of the production model.
