Forza Horizon 6: Japan Map, Car Meets, and 550 Cars! Release Date & Details! (2026)

Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping adventure as Forza Horizon 6 takes us on a thrilling journey to Japan! This highly anticipated racing game is set to release on May 19, 2026, and it's bringing an epic map, an impressive car lineup, and some exciting new features that will keep gamers on the edge of their seats.

But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, a little unexpected. In a twist, players won't be starting as the organizers of the Horizon Festival, as seen in previous titles. Instead, we're stepping into the shoes of a tourist, exploring Japan's stunning landscapes and discovering the secrets of the Horizon Festival along the way.

To progress, players will need to participate in qualifier events, earning their way into the festival and unlocking faster cars through a fan-favorite progression system known as 'wristbands.' Each new wristband brings fresh challenges, like drifting around Tokyo's docks in a Lamborghini or tackling unnamed obstacle courses. And when you reach the Gold Wristband tier, you'll unlock Legend Island, a mysterious new area filled with unique events and tracks to explore.

The Japan map in Forza Horizon 6 is truly massive, surpassing the size of previous Horizon games set in Mexico, the UK, and Australia. Developers have gone all out, creating a diverse world with winding mountain roads, open motorways, quaint country towns, and the bustling metropolis of Tokyo. The capital city alone is said to be five times larger than Guanajuato in Forza Horizon 5, featuring urban downtown areas, industrial zones, suburban districts, and iconic landmarks like Shibuya Crossing and Tokyo Tower.

As players explore, they'll collect virtual stamps and take photos of landmarks, adding to their Collection Journal. The game also brings back seasons, so you'll experience snowy winters, vibrant cherry blossom trees in spring, and the beautiful colors of autumn. With around 550 cars at launch, Forza Horizon 6 offers an impressive lineup, although it falls short of the 902 vehicles available in Forza Horizon 5 after post-launch updates.

The game's cover stars are two highly anticipated Toyotas: the new GR GT supercar and the latest LandCruiser Prado. But that's not all; there will also be adorable 'kei' cars like the Autozam AZ-1 coupe, Honda Beat roadster, and Honda Acty truck, as well as modified Forza Edition cars scattered around the map for players to test drive and purchase.

In response to fan feedback, developers have made some exciting changes. Vehicle liveries now extend to windows, new body kits are available, and there's an 'R' performance class for race cars. Some vehicles from earlier games have been remodeled for Horizon 6, and engine sounds have been updated for a more immersive experience. Developers have even paid attention to the smallest details, like leaves falling from cherry blossom trees as cars pass beneath them and cosmetic tire wear that accumulates with distance.

One of the most exciting additions is the introduction of car meets in the open world. No longer confined to loading screens, players can now show off their customized vehicles in three different locations: the Horizon Festival, the Alps, and a virtual Daikoku car park near Tokyo, one of the most famous real-life car meets.

Forza Horizon 6 also introduces new houses and garages that players can purchase. The garages are attached to the houses and can be customized with different cars from the player's collection, or they can be used to showcase their vehicles to friends. Additionally, players can purchase The Estate, a large customizable plot of land where they can build anything they desire, from buildings to personalized race tracks to enjoy with other players.

The game retains features from previous installments, such as the EventLab track builder, Hide and Seek, and The Eliminator game modes, as well as drag races. New to the mix are Touge Battles on mountain roads, focusing on drift-based challenges.

Forza Horizon 6 will be available on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, as well as through the Game Pass Ultimate subscription. PC players can access the game via the Xbox and Steam stores. A PlayStation 5 release is also planned for later in 2026. The game is now available for pre-order, with early access on May 15 for those who purchase the Premium Edition.

So, are you ready to hit the roads of Japan? Forza Horizon 6 promises an immersive and action-packed experience. And this is the part most people miss: it's not just about the racing; it's about the journey, the exploration, and the community of car enthusiasts that the game brings together. What are your thoughts on this upcoming release? Do you think it will live up to the hype? Let's discuss in the comments!
