Frame.io Rolls Out Major Updates: Premiere Pro Panel, AI-Driven Search, and Stronger Enterprise Security
But here’s where it gets controversial: Frame.io is moving from beta tests to full release on several powerful capabilities, signaling a serious shift in how professionals will collaborate on video projects. If you’re a creator, editor, or producer, these changes could redefine your workflow—and they might spark debate about AI usage, data security, and vendor lock-in.
Frame.io has delivered a robust slate of updates across October and November 2025, including a complete rebuild of the Premiere Pro panel, the introduction of AI-powered media search, and enhanced security features such as forensic watermarking and DRM protection. These moves come hot on the heels of Adobe MAX 2025, as Frame.io expands its role as a cloud-based collaboration hub for post-production.
Premiere Pro panel: a ground-up rebuild
The standout update for users within Adobe’s ecosystem is the general availability of the redesigned Frame.io panel for Premiere Pro 25.6. Built from scratch, the new panel lets editors browse and manage Frame.io projects, files, and folders directly inside the NLE. You can import media into project bins while preserving the original folder structures, share sequences for feedback, and have review comments appear as markers on the Premiere timeline. Quality-of-life tweaks include a default Sequences view for quicker exports and batch import options to choose between originals, high-resolution proxies, or low-resolution proxies.
AI-powered search with media intelligence
A major feature is the rebuilt search powered by “media intelligence.” On paid plans, you can use natural language queries such as “Sunset clips of happy people, status is approved” instead of typing exact filenames. The system uses natural language processing to map requests to assets by leveraging metadata and indexed fields. For Teams and Enterprise clients, a visual search (in beta) analyzes the content of footage and surfaces related results even when descriptions or labels are incomplete. By default, the system indexes the last 30 days of new uploads, with Enterprise customers able to set up historical indexing through their customer success teams.
Enterprise security enhancements: forensic watermarking and DRM
Enterprise Prime and certain legacy Enterprise plans now have full access to Forensic Watermarking and DRM. Forensic Watermarking invisibly stamps each video with a unique, traceable signature for every viewer and delivery, while DRM restricts playback to authorized viewers in supported browsers and Frame.io apps. A new Content Credentials feature also lets users view and verify the origin of media assets, including whether content was created with AI.
Firefly Actions bring AI tools to Frame.io
New Firefly Actions (in beta for Firefly Services customers) empower Enterprise teams to scale AI-assisted workflows. Reframe generates new aspect ratios without rebuilding timelines, Dub creates multilingual versions in 17 languages, and Remove Background cleans up images quickly. Actions can run on individual assets or in batches of up to 100 files.
Camera-to-Cloud and integration updates
Camera to Cloud now supports the FUJIFILM X-T30 III, automatically uploading RAW, JPEG, and HEIF files via the C2C API with optional Lightroom connectivity. Other integrations include image.canon for Canon cameras and a MASV integration for sending files directly to Frame.io Version 4 projects. Webhooks (beta) are now accessible through the web interface for all Version 4 users, enabling event-driven integrations with work management platforms and connectors like Zapier and Fusion without API setup.
Performance, reliability, and workflow enhancements
Frame.io’s iOS app performance has seen meaningful improvements, with cold launches up to 30x faster for large accounts. The Transfer App v1.10.0 addresses reliability issues such as transfers failing after long runs, UI update glitches after uploads, and timeout settings for large files, while also adding DRM and forensic watermarking support for Version 4 accounts.
Sharing and review workflow refinements
The Share Builder has been redesigned with a streamlined right-side panel, and Share Viewer pages now open assets with a single click. Share Activity now shows when shares were opened, which assets were viewed, and whether comments were left. An Auto transcription option automatically detects spoken language and configures transcription settings accordingly, reducing setup time for multilingual projects.
Impact and invitation for discussion
Frame.io’s updates reinforce its aim to be the central hub for professional video collaboration, targeting both individual editors and large production teams.
