Get ready for a thrilling twist in the Boston Red Sox's spring training! Outfielder Jarren Duran is about to embark on a temporary position change, and it's a move that has everyone talking.
Duran, a key player for the Red Sox, is set to represent Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. But here's the catch: he'll be manning right field, a position he's not too familiar with. Alex Cora and the team are taking proactive measures to ensure Duran is prepared for this new role, especially given his limited experience in right field.
"Cora approached me and said, 'You're going to play right field in the WBC, so let's get you ready.'" Duran shared with reporters, as per the Boston Herald.
With just 10 appearances and 50 innings logged at this position, Duran's inexperience could lead to potential injuries. Cora emphasized the importance of getting Duran ready, stating, "It's fair for the player, the federation, and us. If he's going to play right field, he needs to be prepared."
And this is the part most people miss: Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu are expected to be the regulars in center and right field for the Red Sox when the season starts. Duran and Roman Anthony are likely to share designated hitter and left field duties.
But here's where it gets controversial: Cora doesn't anticipate Duran playing much right field for the Red Sox after the World Baseball Classic. So, is this temporary position change a strategic move or a sign of things to come?
What do you think? Will Duran thrive in this new role, or will his inexperience be a hindrance? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
